“We are so excited to have John join us for the 15th annual Autumn & Art presented by Pella Products of Kansas,” said Nancy Duling, president & CEO of Wichita Festivals. “He works with hand-painted gourds and weaves in leaf pine needles around the trim, they’re absolutely beautiful pieces.”

Hernandez’s featured piece is called “Madonna & Child.” It features a hand-painted gourd with leaf pine needles woven around the rim. It is painted with multiple layers of archival inks with two layers of a Spar Urethane for the finish. Pine needles are hand stitched using artificial sinew using a split stitched technique.
